Today’s surgery for Matthew brought us some bad news. They went in to debride (remove) dead muscle, which had caused his skin graft to fail on part of his forearm, but they found much more dead tissue than they had expected. No skin graft can be done there until there is healthy muscle underneath, andContinue reading “Matthew’s surgery; discouraging news”

Saying goodbye for a couple of months
Last night, Pam, Daniel, and Ariela said their goodbyes to Matthew and me for a couple of months. Today, I drove them to the San Francisco airport, and as I write, they are about halfway through their 10 1/2 hour flight to Amsterdam, where they will then take their next flight to Zagreb. Our missionaryContinue reading “Saying goodbye for a couple of months”
Continue to pray for Matthew’s arm and hand nerve pain
Matthew was able to take a walk outside today, for the first time in a month. It was a month ago today that he had his motorcycle accident. Today I happened to look at pictures from back then, and it made me thankful for how far Matthew has come. Thank you all for praying forContinue reading “Continue to pray for Matthew’s arm and hand nerve pain”
Matthew will not be discharged today; will have surgery Thursday
Matthew will not be discharged today (Monday). His pain is still not under control. Although it was lower (4/10) yesterday morning and early afternoon, it went back up to 7/10 yesterday evening and night, and a lot of today, with spikes of pain up to 9/10. They have decided to increase one of his medicationsContinue reading “Matthew will not be discharged today; will have surgery Thursday”
Matthew’s discharge & outpatient wound care and pain management
Thank you for praying for Matthew. For most of today (Sunday), his pain was quite low, but it did spike and stay up for a long time in the afternoon. Please pray that tonight and tomorrow morning, his pain will be very low so he can be discharged from UCSF Parnassus tomorrow (Monday). If allContinue reading “Matthew’s discharge & outpatient wound care and pain management”
Matthew’s pain is better; occupational therapy progress
Thank you for your prayers. Matthew’s pain was much lower today than yesterday. They have made some changes to the medications and dosages, which seems to be helping. The occupational therapist worked with him today. She taught him some exercises for his right arm (which is still weaker and has a limited range of motionContinue reading “Matthew’s pain is better; occupational therapy progress”
Pray for Matthew’s pain management & upcoming discharge
Today is Matthew’s 28th day in the hospital. His medical team at UCSF Parnassus is working to prepare him for discharge. The earliest date would be Sunday. The biggest challenge before discharge is getting his pain under control. They are weaning him off of the IV medications and trying to find the best solution usingContinue reading “Pray for Matthew’s pain management & upcoming discharge”
Matthew’s pain much reduced; walking around with a sling!
Thank you all so much for your prayers for Matthew. In my last update, I mentioned that he was in severe pain, remaining at an 8 out of 10 almost the entire day, with spikes up to 9. Today, he was mostly at a 4 out of 10, with occasional spikes higher. Thank you forContinue reading “Matthew’s pain much reduced; walking around with a sling!”
Matthew is in a lot of pain
Please pray for Matthew. In the last few days, his pain has intensified, and today was not responding to the usual pain killers they have been giving to him, even though they have increased the dosage. His pain is very often an 8 out of 10, and sometimes spikes to a 9 out of 10.Continue reading “Matthew is in a lot of pain”
Get well balloon & cards from Ariela
Ariela picked out a balloon to bring to Matthew. She had also made him a get well card and craft (see pictures) that she brought from Croatia. Matthew’s pain level has been high lately. Please pray for him and the medical team that his pain can be kept under control and for the Lord toContinue reading “Get well balloon & cards from Ariela”
