On the road again; prayer requests for Bible translation

Thank you for your faithful prayers and support. You all are a joy and encouragement to us in this ministry! Since I last wrote, I celebrated a birthday (see picture above). Can you guess which one? It’s not 39, that’s for sure! Nor is it 6, as the candles might indicate. The real number ofContinue reading “On the road again; prayer requests for Bible translation”

Family reunion; 89% of NT checked; coming to speak near you

FAMILY UPDATE: In September, we enjoyed four days of family reunion with Pam’s three sisters, Ruth, Val, and Kim, and their families. Very kind friends gave us the free use of their beautiful lakeside house, which we thoroughly enjoyed (see pictures above). Daniel (16) enjoyed fishing at the lake. Recently, he has been working hardContinue reading “Family reunion; 89% of NT checked; coming to speak near you”

Ariela’s birthday; Daniel’s work project; “Everything not out of faith is sin” (Lost [and found] in translation, installment #18)

FAMILY UPDATEFor the first time in over 33 years, we don’t have any “children” living at home. Ariela turned 13, so we only have teenagers at home now (Daniel is 16). Ariela really enjoyed her birthday celebration and her recent camping trip with her American Heritage Troop (pictured above). Daniel flew to Atlanta for threeContinue reading “Ariela’s birthday; Daniel’s work project; “Everything not out of faith is sin” (Lost [and found] in translation, installment #18)”

Giving to enable the harvest (Luke 10:3-7)

Above: A summer teamer from our home church gives Bayash Roma children the Gospel of Luke and 50 chronological Bible stories in their language. Your financial support and prayers made that possible, PTL! We praise God and thank you for your kind and generous financial support, which enables us to translate the Bible for RomaContinue reading “Giving to enable the harvest (Luke 10:3-7)”

Day 7-8: VBS, book distribution, teen day camp

Thank you for your continued prayers. Yesterday morning, we returned to the smaller Roma village (where the Bayash language is spoken) and had even more kids in attendance. It is hard to count bodies in motion, but there seemed to be about 60 kids and over a dozen older teens and adults. The kids lovedContinue reading “Day 7-8: VBS, book distribution, teen day camp”

Day 5: Bible club (VBS), first day

Thank you for your faithful prayers. Today we attended worship services at a nearby Croatian Baptist Church in the morning, enjoyed čevapi (a special, Bosnian fast food) for lunch, and then in the early afternoon we practiced and rehearsed the program for our first day of VBS. In the early evening we headed to theContinue reading “Day 5: Bible club (VBS), first day”

Day 3-4: Preparation for VBS in Croatia

Thank you for your continued prayers. Tomorrow, we will begin our Bible clubs (Vacation Bible School) with the Roma children. Day 1-2: Travel to Croatia

Thank you for your prayers for our trip. All eight of us arrived safe and sound at our destination in Croatia, where we were met by the Pioneers team of four, who live and work in Croatia with the Roma. We are grateful for God’s mercy that all our luggage arrived with us, and theContinue reading “Day 1-2: Travel to Croatia”

Ask the Lord of the harvest (Luke 10:2)

“And [Jesus] said to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’ ‌When we translate the Bible for Roma, we try to make sure that the translations are accurate and clear. One of the issues we hadContinue reading “Ask the Lord of the harvest (Luke 10:2)”
